On 8 of March, near the Fisherman’s Bastion, hotel Hilton Budapest hosted the most important event of hotel industry in Hungary. 21 hotels competed for the “Hotel of the Year” award. The prize is awarded in 5 categories; the road to the top is paved with serious conditions. Those who decide to compete have to undertake that professionals go through their numbers and achievements of the previous period with a magnifying glass.
Having great economical results is not enough to stay in the competition. Opinions and ratings of guests appearing on websites, as well as the innovative activities and social engagement of the company are also taken into account during the evaluation. They are investigating the human resource policies the hotel uses to create appealing conditions for employees in this quite difficult industry.
Last but not least, hotels were also visited by a secret tester who examined from a guest’s point of view how the abovementioned factors work in reality.
President of the Hungarian Hotel & Restaurant Association, Tamás Flesch, and Deputy CEO of the Hungarian Tourism Agency, Dávid Farkas greeted the participants of the gala dinner and the competitors. The winners were announced by the president of the jury, Andrea Kopócsy.
The team of Kolping Hotel was received the recognition with great pleasure. Our recent developments and efforts are crowned by this award. This requires open-minded owners, excellent employees, co-thinking partners and a lot of satisfied guests!
This year also offers a lot of novelties in the hotel in Alsópáhok with an enthusiastic team who keeps working on achieving guests to think upon leaving that “It was even better than we expected!”. And believe me, the basic expectations towards the Hotel of the Year are quite high.

“Great hotel for families. A lot of outside playgrounds for different aged kids. Indoor playgrounds, family pools - again for different aged kids family wellness and daycare included. We did encounter larger selections at single dinner and/or breakfast, but the selection is different day to day so overall. Everything is well prepared and tasty. They do offer vegan alternatives and do claim that they can cater for people with specific allergies. It is perfect for kids. They offer 8 hour care for kids over 4 and up to 3 hours for small children between 1 and 3. The play room have lots of toys, books, table top games to borrow and puzzles. You can see into that room from the Cafe and Bar so it's not necessary to put your kids to the animators if you just want to enjoy a cup of coffee or a drink. Books and games can be borrought to your room.”
